1. I guess i wasn't clear on this point. I want the indicated part to be in white. If you visit gokkamakka.com/poda you could see that area is in grey.

thanks for the reply. when i tried pasting that code, there is an extra 150 px gap appearing below the banner. What could be the problem?

remove height element of that css class and change it into this code:
